ALA LERESTEUX
If art were a hive, and eyes were bees, Ala Leresteaux would be dripping with honey. Making your grandmother into a hat rack or transforming a glass into a strange looking man holding up a glass are natural activities for an unnatural activist such as she. When you train your nerves to follow through despite what your brain might tell it do, you may venture, in a lucid haze, beyond the point of iffy return.
In myriad mediums she may crush velvet Elvis but the chance of art, albeit art replete with wrinkles, increases manifold. Leresteaux admits to having no expectations whatsoever so whatever she does is just what we're expecting her to do: surprise us.
Hello and Welcome to my website. My name is Ala Leresteux. I prefer to count myself as an international artist, but my roots are from Lithuania and I believe that traditions and the very special spirit of my country are deeply affecting my art. By the moment I am not living in Lithuania but each time I feel a lack of inspiration or energy, I just need to go back to my home town, Vilnius.
Firstly I studied Philosophy in Moscow State University (MSU) which for ever changed my perception and gave me endless range of themes for contemplation. After finishing university, I moved to Paris and, there, I understood that the best way to express my ideas is art. I was taking various drawing courses at l'Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (ENSBA) and educated myself by getting acquainted with the masterpieces from Le Louvres, the museum of Cluny, the Quai d'Orsay, Pompidou Centre,... I went through many different techniques but by the moment I am in love with ink pointillism.
I am not sure how to define my art. For me it is each time a quest and research. Many different problems are grabbing my attention: philosophical, physical, biological,... and my art is my way to make different concepts clearer for me and to attract to them the attention of my spectators.
