Kazuko Ueda Torcivia
Kazuko Ueda Torcivia
We regretfully announce the passing of Kazuko Ueda Torcivia of Cypress, Texas on June 8, 2023.
She was surrounded by her family when she passed away peacefully after a short illness. She is survived by her daughter Angie, son Anthony and her beloved grandson AJ.
Kazuko was an honorable hardworking woman, a loving and dedicated mother of two who was born on January 2, 1930 in Manchuria, China to Japanese parents Ushimatsu and Tsugimi Ueda. She had five brothers and sisters and as a young teen, she and her family fell victim to the war between the two countries and were forced to retreat to Yokohama where she worked in the restaurant business and eventually met her Husband Anthony Torcivia who was serving in the Navy. They married in 1958 and had two children, Angeline and Anthony Jr, and lived in Toms River, New Jersey. In 1968 her husband was killed aboard the USS Westchester county while serving in Vietnam. Kazuko never re-married, and remained in love with Anthony until her death.
As a single mother in a new country, Kazuko was determined to give her children everything she could- she learned a new language, got a driver’s license, a good job and worked her fingers to the bone in a sewing factory until her retirement at age 79. With a great sense of humor and a giving nature, good with a buck and someone you needed to keep an eye on when playing cards, Kazuko was a gem in the eyes of all who had the pleasure to know her. She will be sorely missed by all of us, and her memory will always be a blessing. Her last three years in Texas were so enjoyable to her, and she was happy and comfortable during her final adventure.
Rest in Peace Mamasan, you will always be in our hearts and we will never forget you. We love you so much.
At her request, Kazuko’s ashes will be buried next to her husband at Memorial Shrine in Easton, Pennsylvania.
